Does Moonlighter 2 Have Co-op? Multiplayer Explained
What the listings say
The Steam store lists Single-player, Steam Achievements, Full controller support, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing, and nothing under co-op, online or shared/split screen. The PlayStation Store lists one player with offline play; the Nintendo Store lists single system, one player. There is no crossplay because there is nothing to cross.
What the developers say
The clearest answer came in Digital Sun’s r/Games AMA on 26 November 2025, one week into Early Access. Asked whether a small co-op mode could be added, production director Dani García replied that co-op “always comes up” but the game was never designed for it, that adding it later is “much harder than it looks, both technically and in design”, and that while the team did not want to say “absolutely never”, it was not something they could promise. Nothing has changed since: the Early Access roadmap, the two content updates and the 1.0 launch post contain no multiplayer item, and the pinned Steam FAQ describes the game as a “dual-core roguelike” for one merchant. Requests for two-player co-op in that Steam thread went unanswered.
In the same AMA answer the team said they liked the idea of pets returning from the first game “in a different way”; that became the Bloblet companions in the Blob-Life update.
What exists instead
- Reddit AMAs with the team around launch (r/Xbox, r/Nintendo, r/Games in early September 2026).
- The official Discord linked from every Steam post and the r/Moonlighter subreddit, where the developers read feedback.
- Shopkeeping contests run by Digital Sun on Discord and Steam (May 2026), where players share decorated shops.
- Steam Family Sharing, so one purchase can be played by household accounts in turn.
