Moonlighter 2 Crashes, Stuttering & Steam Deck Fixes

The 1.0 performance issue

On 2 September 2026 Digital Sun pinned “[UPDATE] Performance Issues after last patch”. The team identified the cause as the old DirectX 11 path, asked players to check that DirectX 12 is installed, and said a hotfix restoring DX11 compatibility was expected after the weekend or early the following week. The game’s recommended spec lists DirectX 12; the minimum lists DirectX 11.

Reported symptoms in that thread: crashes to desktop when moving to a new map during NPC quests, a crash on leaving the arena during the boss gauntlet, a perk slot with no icon that soft-locked a run, a bridge that failed to repair after a boss, and Steam Deck performance dropping after the patch.

Official troubleshooting (11 bit tech support)

From the pinned “TECH SUPPORT & KNOWN ISSUES” thread:

  • Update not showing: quit Steam completely and relaunch.
  • Freezing, lagging, crashing on PC: run Display Driver Uninstaller, reinstall the latest GPU driver; disable overlays (Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, AMD); disable overclocking tools; verify game files.
  • Steam Deck: set all graphics options to Low and restart; use FSR3 with the Balanced or Quality preset.
  • PS4/PS5 controller shows Xbox buttons: disable Steam Input.
  • Anything else: email techsupport@11bitstudios.com (any language).

Steam Deck expectations

The game has been Verified since January 2026 with larger text and per-device graphics settings. Digital Sun’s own note at the time: the town and some dungeon sections can dip to about 40 FPS after several hours, and RAM usage was the next target. After 1.0 a forum thread reported the town struggling to hold 45 FPS on Deck; a community video titled “Steam Deck Performance 1.0 Update” and the stuttering-fix thread linked from it are the current player references.

Early Access bugs already fixed

Patch 1 (Nov 2025) fixed the controller stick direction mismatch, Medic Taalik trapping progress, 4RT-TR4P damaging you while tased, V3NUS becoming invulnerable, Foam Combo perks, two Sliver perks and a keybind-remap input loss. Greed & Glory listed open blockers around Colosseum room completion, chest-plus-notification timing and relic tab switching; Blob-Life fixed the Thalaam post-fight NPC lock. If you meet one of these on 1.0, verify files first.
